Xbox has confirmed that it will publish PHYSINT, Hideo Kojima’s still-distant action-espionage game. The announcement matters because PHYSINT was publicly born as a Sony collaboration.
Xbox says the deal expands its relationship with Kojima Productions beyond OD. Xbox CEO Asha Sharma said the company is honored Kojima chose Xbox as the partner for PHYSINT, while Kojima said his studio remains committed to redefining the action-espionage genre.
PHYSINT is no longer just a PlayStation story
When PHYSINT was unveiled in early 2024, Sony Interactive Entertainment presented it as a new action-espionage project from Kojima Productions. Kojima is synonymous with stealth through Metal Gear, so the project immediately carried unusual weight.
Xbox is now the publisher named by the companies. Its announcement does not spell out platforms, release timing or exclusivity terms, so those details should not be assumed until explicitly confirmed.

The bigger deal is the relationship
This is not a one-project handshake. Xbox says its relationship with Kojima Productions now covers OD and PHYSINT, and will also extend into film and television.
For Xbox, Kojima is the kind of creator who gives a platform cultural weight years before a game ships. For Kojima Productions, working across games, film and television fits the studio’s ambition to blur boundaries between interactive entertainment and cinema.
Do not expect PHYSINT soon
PHYSINT has always been presented as a long-term project. Early material has focused on concept art, casting and technological ambition rather than a near-term release.
Until Microsoft or Kojima Productions gives a concrete platform list, “Xbox will publish it” is the fact; claims about exact console exclusivity remain speculation.
Why this matters
Modern platform strategy is becoming less predictable. A project can begin inside one first-party relationship and end up in another. PHYSINT is unusually visible because of Kojima’s history with PlayStation and Metal Gear.
For players, the best outcome is simple: the project survives, gets the resources it needs, and eventually becomes the ambitious espionage game Kojima has been describing.
